The shoe saga

“But the beauty is in the walking -- we are betrayed by destinations.” ― Gwyn Thomas

Okay, okay, I said I wasn't going to get new shoes because I was too darn cheap, etc. Well, a funny thing happens when one begins walking a lot - the foot lengthens a bit. Last week I walked to work every day, ~7-7.5 kms one way, depending on the route I take, and then on Sunday did another 25 kms. Sunday's walk became uncomfortable since my big toes began to contact the end of my shoes. Not enough to blacken the toenails but sure made a mess of my favorite Saskatchewn Roughrider socks...It became clear that I'd need new shoes after all. I figure the money I spend on new shoes will be partially offset by not ruining a pair of socks per day!

At the advice of my knowledgeable and persistent wife, I trundled off to Gord's Running Store on Centre St in Calgary. The lovely and personable Bianca assessed my gait in a variety of shoes while I concentrated on feel. We decided on a pair of Brooks Glycerin 13s that are, dare I say, both comfortable and stylish...The pieces are coming together!
